Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale not bigger than the industry, ban should not be lifted – Rex Omar tells VGMA board

Veteran musician Rex Omar has urged the board and organizers of the VGMAs not to lift the ban placed on dancehall artistes Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

The two artistes were banned indefinitely from the awards after Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage while receiving an award last year.

He appeared to have been provoked upon seeing Shatta Wale head towards him on stage.

According to Rex Omar, the two artistes are not bigger than Ghana’s music industry.

He stated that the industry is guided by rules and after their brawl at the 2019 VGMAs, the ban should serve as a deterrent to other artistes.

“They are not bigger than the industry…if we allow them to be bigger than the industry, then we don’t have an industry, forget it. Principles must stand.”

Rex Omar said the ban on the two must continue to serve the purpose for which it was handed.
