Everton sack Marco Silva with David Moyes favourite to take temporary charge

Everton have sacked manager Marco Silva after becoming embroiled in a Premier League relegation battle, with former manager David Moyes expected to take charge on an interim basis.

Silva was appointed ahead of the 2018/2019 season following his sacking from Watford, but a poor run of form this season has seen Everton slip to 18th in the Premier League table.

The final nail in Silva's Everton coffin was seemingly the crushing 5-2 Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Duncan Ferguson will take charge of Saturday's game against Chelsea.

Moyes has turned down the opportunity to take over at other clubs as he has held out for a return to the Premier League.

He has also been under consideration by another of his former clubs, West Ham United, should they sack Manuel Pellegrini who has also been under pressure this season.

However, Moyes' ready availability and experience, given he spent 11 years at Everton, and his desire to return to Goodison Park may tip things in his favour.
