First Nigerians fleeing South Africa arrive home

The first batch of Nigerians fleeing xenophobic violence in South Africa has arrived back in the main city of Lagos.

The 188 people on board were the first returnees of around 600 Nigerians who have said they want to return home following a wave of anti-immigrant violence in the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Their departure from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg was delayed by eight hours.

According to the Nigerian mission in South Africa, some people were turned back because of inadequate documentation for travelling with children

Abike Dabiri-Erewa,the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, said a second flight will be flying to Johannesburg to fetch those that remain.

The violence has led to a cooling of diplomatic relations between Africa’s two largest economies.

Twelve people have been killed, including two foreign nationals, in the latest attacks against people and businesses in South Africa

While the Nigerian foreign ministry has said that no Nigerians have been killed, fake news shared online prompted outrage over the attacks in Johannesburg.

Wakaso joins Chinese club Jiangsu Suning

Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is on the verge of swapping the Spanish La Liga for the Chinese Super League (CSL) after agreeing personal terms with Jiangsu Suning. Wakaso, 29, was entering into the final year of his three-year deal with Deportivo Alaves, but he will now depart midway through the season after the two clubs reached an agreement. The deal is subject to the 29-year-old passing a medical. Deportivo Alavés in a statement expressed gratitude to Wakaso "for his professionalism and dedication during this time and wished him the best of luck". He will join compatriots Emmanuel Boateng and Frank Achiampong in the Chinese topflight.

THE ban on celebrities endorsing alcoholic beverages by Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has clearly affected a lot of celebrities and one aggrieved personality is comic actor Kwame Dzokoto who says it is the reason why he is no longer in the media. Ghana, United Kingdom pledge to strengthen ties of co-operation

Ghana and the United Kingdom have resolved to deepen the bilateral relations that exist between the two countries, as well as, explore areas of interest that will inure to the mutual benefit of the two countries and their respective populations.
