South African pupils die of suspected food poisoning

Three pupils have died of suspected food poisoning at a school in South Africa’s eastern province of Mpumalanga, officials say.

According to South Africa’s Soweten newspaper, after students at Nelson Ngobeni Primary School complained about stomach pains on Monday afternoon and started to vomit, they were taken to hospital.

Two of the children died on the way, another in hospital.

“There are currently about 10 learners from the same school who are being treated at Emalahleni hospital," said Jasper Zwane, a spokesperson from Mpumalanga’s education department.

He said an investigation had begun and the province’s education minister is expected to meet parents later.

Wakaso joins Chinese club Jiangsu Suning

Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is on the verge of swapping the Spanish La Liga for the Chinese Super League (CSL) after agreeing personal terms with Jiangsu Suning. Wakaso, 29, was entering into the final year of his three-year deal with Deportivo Alaves, but he will now depart midway through the season after the two clubs reached an agreement. The deal is subject to the 29-year-old passing a medical. Deportivo Alavés in a statement expressed gratitude to Wakaso "for his professionalism and dedication during this time and wished him the best of luck". He will join compatriots Emmanuel Boateng and Frank Achiampong in the Chinese topflight.

Ghana and the United Kingdom have resolved to deepen the bilateral relations that exist between the two countries, as well as, explore areas of interest that will inure to the mutual benefit of the two countries and their respective populations.
