Ghana Football Awards: Thomas Partey wins Player of the Year

Black Stars and Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey, was named 2019 Footballer of the Year at last night’s Ghana Football Awards event ceremony.

Partey helped Atletico Madrid finish second in last season’s Spanish League and was a key part of Ghana’s qualification to the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Mukarama Abdullai was named Female Footballer of the year after her outstanding performance for the Black Maidens in the 2018 FIFA Under 17 tournament in Uruguay.

Wakaso joins Chinese club Jiangsu Suning

Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is on the verge of swapping the Spanish La Liga for the Chinese Super League (CSL) after agreeing personal terms with Jiangsu Suning. Wakaso, 29, was entering into the final year of his three-year deal with Deportivo Alaves, but he will now depart midway through the season after the two clubs reached an agreement. The deal is subject to the 29-year-old passing a medical. Deportivo Alavés in a statement expressed gratitude to Wakaso "for his professionalism and dedication during this time and wished him the best of luck". He will join compatriots Emmanuel Boateng and Frank Achiampong in the Chinese topflight.

THE ban on celebrities endorsing alcoholic beverages by Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has clearly affected a lot of celebrities and one aggrieved personality is comic actor Kwame Dzokoto who says it is the reason why he is no longer in the media. According to Kwame Dzokoto, who has advertised alcoholic beverages in the past and was the host of popular show, Edziban on TV3, the decision is biting hard but there is no one to speak for them. “I decided to leave the media since no one is speaking for us. Although I made a lot of money from advertising alcoholic beverages, I just decided to stop this media thing and try my hands at a different thing. Ten players have been put forward for the prestigious prize, which is now in its fourth year Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk are among the 10 players nominated for FIFA's The Best Men's Player award. Ghana, United Kingdom pledge to strengthen ties of co-operation

Ghana and the United Kingdom have resolved to deepen the bilateral relations that exist between the two countries, as well as, explore areas of interest that will inure to the mutual benefit of the two countries and their respective populations. This was disclosed on Monday, January 20, 2020, when the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, held bilateral talks with British Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson, MP, on the sidelines of the ongoing UK-Africa Investment Summit.
